Cristiano Ronaldo Private Edition
Welcome! You are one of the lucky few to gain access to my private online member’s club, where you will be the first in the world to see an exclusive series of films and images documenting the journey to create my new fragrance, The Private Edition. I hope you like it!
Over the past couple of years, I have really enjoyed creating and launching my own brands and working on my own ventures. Being so hands on has taught me a lot about the world of business. Of course there is still a lot to learn, but I am loving the process! My biggest piece of advice would be to always trust your gut instinct and stay true to yourself, but there are a few other principles that have helped me.
Passion is number one. You have to love and believe in what you do. If you are passionate, it shines through, whatever business or industry you are in. It also means that you are willing to go the extra mile - if you love what you do then it doesn’t feel like work, no matter how much time and energy you invest. All of my businesses are passion projects, which means that I’m always excited about what I’m creating and fully dedicated from start to finish.
Take in everything and everyone around you! Inspiration can be found anywhere, so take a step back from what you’re doing to just look around and absorb what’s going on. Push yourself, get out of your comfort zone and do something new. When I was developing The Private Edition I had many meetings and creative sessions with the fragrance house and perfumer and it was so interesting and inspiring. The world of fragrance is relatively new to me, this is the second scent that I have developed, so I make sure that I learn as much as I can and absorb what’s going on around me.
Like anything in life, success in business or in your career takes dedication and commitment. Think long-term, set goals, be driven and don’t give in to distractions. It’s easier said than done but discipline and commitment are hugely important.
The people you surround yourself with are so important. I need to be able to trust those that I work with, but also want to be around people who have an opinion and a point of view. With my brands, I collaborate with the best, most experienced partners. But I always rely on the opinions of my friends and family, as they are the ones who know me best. When creating The Private Edition, I worked with some of my closest friends to develop and bounce ideas around. We have fun while we are working, but when it comes to making important decisions I can’t imagine doing it without a team of people who I trust and respect.
Fragrance & Grooming
I like to take care of my appearance and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that! I like to try new haircuts, take care of my skin, and of course smell good. There’s something about the routine and ritual of it that’s relaxing, makes you feel your best and really sets you up for the day.
I especially love fragrance because every different scent holds so many unique meanings and memories for each person that wears it. Fragrances are something that’s a personal statement – it communicated how you want to present yourself to the world.
What I’ve learnt throughout this process is that there’s a few key steps to finding your signature scent. Firstly, you should test every fragrance on a blotter card. Smelling a fragrance straight out of a bottle only really gives you a glimpse of the top notes, but a blotter card brings out the middle and top notes that make up the majority of the scent. When you’re ready to test it, spray the fragrance on the end of the card and hold it an inch away from your nose…smell it straight away and again after a minute or so. If you’re testing a few different fragrances, I’ve been taught to smell coffee beans after each scent to help you distinguish between them.
The next step is testing how the fragrance works with your body chemistry. Spray some on your wrist as usual and smell it straight away, but also smell it again after thirty minutes so you can see how it evolves over time. The waiting technique is to do with the structure of the fragrance, as the different top, middle and bottom notes appear at different times.
Top notes give you the first impression when you spray a scent on yourself. Middle notes are like the heart of the fragrance and can appear after a few minutes, or an hour after spraying. Bottom notes appear after half an hour and create the main body of the fragrance – they’re the ingredients that leave a lasting impression. It’s so important to wait to sense all the different ingredients, it’s always worth it!
The same fragrance can smell very different once it has had time to settle in to your skin, which means it can really be unique to everyone. I wanted to make The Private Edition strong and bold but not over-powering; it’s very distinctive and makes a statement but is still personal to each person that wears it. Whatever fragrance you wear, you should always apply it to your pulse points, including your wrists and behind your ears. They also say you should wear a fragrance where you want to be kissed…in that case the neck and chest area are the best places to start!
I choose my fragrance depending on my mood and what I’m doing. Cristiano Ronaldo Legacy is a sophisticated and timeless all-rounder which I wear day to day…I’ve got a few bottles in my car, house, training room locker and will top up throughout the day. The Private Edition is a really luxurious and masculine scent, perfect for special occasions, date nights, or whenever you want to make an impression.
Rules for success
Success means something different for everyone, but whatever you’re aiming towards, I think there are a few core principles that always hold true.
1. Hard Work
Achieving your dreams and hard work go hand in hand- you can’t expect one without the other. This was instilled in me from an early age, training all day, every day to be the best I could be. The same can apply to any job. Every day is an opportunity to do something amazing, so push yourself, and give 110%.
2. Don’t Be Afraid of Failure
Some people live their lives with constant fear of failure, but instead we should embrace it. The most important thing is that you are trying- that’s what gives you a sense of purpose in life, and each and every failure will help you on the path to success. Anything worth doing in life will have the possibility of failure, so accept it. If you risk nothing you gain nothing!
It takes dedication and determination to achieve your goals and success doesn’t happen over-night. It takes patience and commitment, day in day out. Try to think of the bigger picture and what you will achieve in the long run. It may be easier said than done, but visualise the end goal and be confident in knowing that it will come. Never give up – you’re only giving up on yourself!
Accept who you are and stay true to what you believe in. Being confident and being true to yourself is something my mother taught me from a very early age. There will always be critics out there and people who try to knock you down, but don’t dwell on the negativity of others. Use it to motivate you. If you don’t believe in yourself, then who else is going to believe in you? To be the best, you have to believe you’re the best, and that can apply to anything in life!
